DOHA: The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum (FBQ Museum) launched a conservation-themed-exhibition at its temporary gallery in Shahaniya.
Museum Founder Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani opened the exhibition and toured it along with diplomatic heads from over 25 countries.
Titled ‘Recovered treasures from the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum Collection’ the expo is open for visitors and the public until December 31.
Organised by FBQ Museum and co-curated by M.Sc. Conservation Studies students at UCL Qatar, the theme of the exhibition is restoration of museum collection objects with particular significance to hidden information in them. It features over 60 rare artefacts from Sheikh Faisal’s extensive private collection and includes priceless Islamic art and artefacts of Qatari heritage. It also highlights examination methods, analytical techniques and treatments used by conservation students to investigate and preserve the collection. The exhibition includes interactive sessions with students, during select weekends.
“I am delighted to witness the fruitful outcome, thanks to our mutually beneficial collaborative work with UCL Qatar, which was evident from the expo that opened today,” said Sheikh Faisal.
“The exhibition includes items from my special collection and gives visitors an opportunity to view rare artefacts accounted for their high cultural value. The exhibits showcase the richness of culture, history and heritage from over the years,” he added.
He expressed happiness that UCL programmes on museum study and the protection of monuments and archaeology are consistent with his vision of embracing scientific research to preserve the Qatari culture. He said the exhibits reflect his fascination and passion for ancient past, heritage and authenticity, and the role of historical struggles and achievements in shaping contemporary culture and identity.
