Doha: The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) under the aegis of the Indian embassy, launched ICC Mangalyaan Tech Fest - 2015, an inter-school competition on demonstrating science models based on astronomy for Indian schools at Birla Public School.
Panel of Judges Shadish Vadivellu, Dr Arul, David, Amar, Pia Nunoo along with Special Guest Dr Mohan Thomas, former chairman and director of the Board of Birla Public School, and ICC managing committee members inaugurated the event.
Dr Thomas congratulated the committee, members, special sub-committee and the judges for conducting the event for students of Indian schools and fulfilling the objectives of developing and grooming young generation’s aptitude in science and technology in the region and across the globe.
ICC President Girish Kumar thanked Ambassador and Patron of ICC Sanjiv Arora who encouraged the committee team to implement the concept of the ‘ICC Mangalyaan, Ambassador’s Rolling Trophy’.
Suneel Thapliyal, Second Secretary at the embassy and ICC CO, interacted with the student team who exhibited science models.
Dr K Radhakrishnan, former chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation and former mission director of Mangalyaan, delivered a speech over the phone in the auditorium and congratulated the initiative and briefed about the second anniversary celebration of Mangalyaan project.
The tolling trophy is a first-time initiative to bring out students’ scientific potentiality.
The event recognised Birla Public School, MES, Ideal Indian School, DMIS, Shantiniketan, DPSMIS, Bhavan’s Public School and Al Khor International School which all participated with 48 models in the field of astronomy, exhibited by about 240 students.
The competition includes science models, written test and science quiz. Science models were displayed on Friday, the test will be held on Next Friday and science quiz on November 20.
