
DOHA: More than a third of new businesses and branch operations of existing businesses licensed in the country in October were for contracting and construction activities.
Details released by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce for the month show that quarter of new business licences issued were for contracting companies.
The ministry licensed a total of 1,150 businesses and some 910 of them, or 79 percent, were new businesses.
A tenth of the commercial registrations (CR) done or licensed issued by the ministry were for construction companies.
The registrations included for both, new businesses and for branch operations of existing businesses.
Restaurants, fast food joints and vegetable and fruit outlets accounted for five percent of new businesses registered in the month. They also included branch operations of existing businesses.
Factories and cleaning companies came in the next with a share of four percent each in the total, while the remaining 52 percent pertained to several other business activities. At least 236 commercial registrations were cancelled in October and a majority 76 percent of them (179) were branch operations of existing businesses.
Limited liability companies (LLCs) continue to be the most popular form of businesses to be set up in Qatar as some 45 percent of new businesses licensed and 38 percent of branch operations registered were LLCs.
Whereas most branch operations registered in the month (48 percent) were of proprietorship companies.
