Doha: Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC) yesterday congratulated Team Qatar for historic performance at the Tokyo Olympics, praising the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Qatar Olympic Committee President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for their all out support for sports in the country.
QWSC President Lulwa Hussein Al Marri hailed Qatar’s achievements in Tokyo heaping praise on gold medallists Fares Ibrahim and Mutaz Barshim and the beach volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Tijan Ahmed, who clinched bronze medal.
Al Marri also expressed delight on Qatar’s top spot among the Arab nations at the Games.
“Achieving this historic feat will be an impetus for achieving more colorful medals in the upcoming tournaments and we wish success for all national athletes, especially at the Paris Olympics in 2024,” the QWSC President said.
She also praised the women’s participation in the Olympics, with the presence of Tala Abujbara and Bashayer Al Manwari, who were impressive on their Games debuts.
