Doha: General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti yesterday inaugurated the Russian Corner in front of the Al Thuraya Planetarium, Building 41 in the presence of Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the State of Qatar H E Dmitry Dugadkin, alongside a number of diplomats and artists.
The Russian Corner features a bust of Yuri Gagarin, the Soviet cosmonaut who became the first human to travel into outer space.
Sculpted by Russian artist Alexei Leonov, the bust is a tribute to one of the most prominent icons of scientific achievement in the 20th century.
The artwork was gifted to Katara in 2025 by the international charitable foundation Dialogue of Cultures – One World, in collaboration with the Russian Embassy, as a testament to the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations.
The Russian Corner embodies a cultural and humanistic dimension that reflects the shared values connecting different peoples.
It also strengthens Katara’s position as a global hub for cultural exchange and dialogue among civilizations.
This new addition joins a series of international artistic corners located throughout Katara’s Cultural Village, including the Spanish, Turkish, Filipino, Ecuadorian, and Georgian Corners.
These installations are the result of close cooperation between Katara and various embassies in Qatar.
They represent the Foundation’s mission of building bridges between nations through arts and culture, and align with Katara’s vision to promote mutual understanding, foster human connection, and offer visitors from around the world a rich cultural experience.
