DOHA: American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham Qatar) is working aggressively to facilitate and boost business and economic relationships between Qatar and the US.
The Qatar chapter of American Chamber of Commerce recently participated at an event in Washington to promote Qatar as one of the most attractive destinations for investments in the region. The delegation from Qatar also included Robert Hager (pictured), AmCham Qatar Chairman and Partner, Squire Patton Boggs and other senior members.
The event was well-attended by prominent US-based businesses and investors, including those with economic interests in the Middle East region. During the visit, they also met with top diplomats from Qatar and the US.
AmCham Qatar has also announced to host a senior official of the US Chamber of Commerce by the end of this month, who will be providing insight on Qatar-US economic relations, challenges, opportunities and other issues related to business and trade, according to AmCham-Qatar’s latest news letter.
The AmCham Qatar delegation joined the Middle East Chamber of American Chambers of Commerce (MECACC) in Washington DC from May 21-24 for an outstanding Doorknock event.
The AmCham Qatar had the largest representation at the event which included Jay Turk, AmCham Qatar Executive Board Member and CEO of Libra Trading Company; Rehan Khan, AmCham Qatar Executive Board Member and Executive Program Director - FIFA World Cup, Ch2M Hill; Tarek Saad, AmCham Qatar Chairman Circle Member and Of Council, Squire Patton Boggs; and Lisa Saad, AmCham Qatar Executive Director.
The MECACC is the umbrella organisation for multiple American Chambers of Commerce in the region and these organisations collectively play a key role in promoting American commercial interests.
This year MECACC hosted a delegation of 15 AmCham members who traveled to the US capital on behalf of the private sector and to promote Qatar and other GCC economies as investment destinations and trade partners of the US.
This year’s mission involved meetings with OMB Director Mick Mulvaney, 25 percent of the Senate, members of the US House of Representatives, Joint Committees, National Council on US-Arab Relations, and US Chamber of Commerce. Separately the AmCham Qatar delegation met with Ambassador Ann Patterson, President of the US-Qatar Business Council, and Qatar’s Ambassador to the US, Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani at the Qatar Embassy.
As part of efforts to enhance bilateral cooperating between Qatar and the US, AmCham Qatar will be hosting Khush Choksy, Senior Vice-resident for Middle East and Turkey Affairs at the US Chamber of Commerce based in Washington DC on June 27. During the event Choksy will provide perspectives on the US-Qatar commercial relationship from the standpoint of the US Chamber of Commerce and its members.
The AmCham Qatar members are also expected to join a networking event of QBBF (Qatar British Business Forum) and the Turkish Business Council to be held on July 9 at InterContinental Doha The City.
During the June 27 event, AmCham Qatar is also expected to welcome its new corporate members, including Al Amthal Hospitality and Aperture Group Management Company.

Aperture Group manages portfolio investments on behalf of the AL ALFIA GROUP based in Qatar. The portfolio is diversified to include but not limited to the Oil and Gas Industry, Manufacturing, Real Estate Development, Infrastructure Contracting, Building Construction, Hospitality, and FMCG.
