DOHA: As the curtains came down on the Qatar SuperBike Championship (QSBK), the organisers said they were hoping to enlist more European riders next season.
“We are thinking of bringing in more riders from Europe next season so that we have strong riders and more challenging races. We also hope to increase the number of riders,” said Nasser Khalifa Al Attiyah, the President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and General Manager of Losail International Circuit.
“With our team of Alex, Nina, Mishal and Saeed we are planning an outdoor event in Qatar with the endurance team and we are checking how we can accommodate them as wild card entries into the Moto2 races in the World Championship to get them ready for the future,” the QMMF President said.
He also talked about plans for the second half of the year.
“This year we are going to host the FIA General Assembly and awards gala in December and it will be the first time that the event will be held in the MENA region. We are preparing for that with officials, drivers and champions from more than 150 counties attending.
Al Attiya also spoke about his future involvements in international motoring competitions.
“At the end of the year, there will be an election in the FIM. So, I will finish my term as FIM vice-president after four years and, maybe, again run for the post in the coming election.”
