DOHA: Marking International Women’s Day yesterday, the French embassy announced the launch of ‘Qatari –French Women Network’ to contribute to Qatari women’s efforts as a driving force towards a knowledge- based economy.
Announcing details at a press conference at his residence, Chevallier said: “The programme aims to create, strengthen and keep alive a network of active Qatari and French women to facilitate initiatives.”
Several Qatari and French businesswomen attended the event and discussed the programme.
In September, the embassy will launch a call for projects for all Qatari women in all disciplines. Three projects achievable within six months will be selected by a Qatari- French committee and the laureates announced during Women’s Day next year, Chevallier said. “We will create bonds between Qatari and French women by twinning the laureates with French women who will work with them to develop the project, from logistics to administrative or legal matters, from research to networking. If needed, French women will also help and reach out to potential partners and sponsors.”
Aisha Al Fardan, Vice-Chairwoman, Qatari Businesswomen Association, said: “We appreciate the cooperation initiative between business Qatari and French women, and we are here to discuss and share ideas related to the fields we can cooperate in. Qatari women have invested in many fields and sometimes are better than men.” To a question, Al Fardan said she suggested cooperation in the field of university education, especially in the arts because France is famous in the field.
