Qatar marks International Women’s Day with event

DOHA: Qatar marked International Women’s Day yesterday with a slew of activities including seminars and community gatherings to recognize the achievements of women in Qatar. 
Educational institutions, civil society organizations and several private companies marked the occasion with separate activities.
Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), organized a seminar entitled “My Voice, My Future” in collaboration with the Doha International Family Institute (DIFI).
The event was attended by more than 200 people including several dignitaries. Former Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Dr Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, and Dr Ahmad Hasnah, President of HBKU, 
Ambassador of the Netherlands Yvette Burghgraef-van Eechoud, French Ambassador Eric Chevallier, Palestinian ambassador Munir Ghannam, Spanish ambassador, Ignacio Escobar, Belgium’s Ambassador Christophe Payot were present. A panel discussion was held in which five prominent Qatari women from varied professional backgrounds participated.
The participating women were Dr Kholode Al Obaidli, former vice-president of National Talent Management within the Human Resources Department at Qatar Airways, Aysha Al Mudahka, CEO of Qatar Business Incubation Center, Dr. Asma Al Fadhala, Director of Research at the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), Hanadi Al Darwish, artist and Director of the Visual Arts Center of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and Tahani Al Hajri, Columnist. Reem Al Harmi, a well-known Qatari columnist moderated the discussion.
Panellists stressed the important role women play in helping achieve the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, and the need for all segments of society to work together in service of the country.
Qatar Insurance Company marked the contribution that women at QIC had made for the success of the company.
