Qatar’s expert chefs showcase talents at Salon Culinaire

The creme de la creme of Qatar’s culinary scene showcased their talents at the Salon Culinaire which kicked off yesterday at Hospitality Qatar 2017.
The Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre was filled with excitement as the chefs created their culinary masterpieces during the thrilling competition which is among the highlights of the annual hospitality event.
“This year, we have 268 participants from hotels all over Doha competing in 27 categories. There has been an increase in the number of participating chefs, but more importantly they are joining in hard categories which entail skill and hardwork like live cooking and cooking from the box,” Joseph Yammine, Vice-President of Qatar Culinary Professionals, organisers of Salon Culinaire, told The Peninsula.
Yesterday, the chefs competed in various categories includingLebanese Mezza, Wedding Cake, Terrine/Pate, Team Cake and Live Cooking from the Box, among others. “We have different categories every day and this year because of the huge increase in the number of participants, the competition starts as early as 9am,” explained Yammine.
A jury composed of expert chefs coming from 11 countries who are members of World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS) flew to Doha to judge the competition, he said.
This year’s jury is headed by WACS World Chefs President Thomas Gugler from Germany and includes masterchefs and luminaries in the culinary world including Marco Paul Bruschweiler (Thailand), Federico Michieletto (Malaysia), Sanet Prinsloo (Namibia), Souheil Habib El Ghazal (Lebanon), Cornelia Volino (Canada), Norberth Girnth ((Germany), Christos Gkotsis (Greece), Dimuthu Kumarasinghe (Sri Lanka), Gokhan Tufhan (Turkey) and Fernando Aracama (Philippines).
Running until tomorrow, Hospitality Qatar 2017 also features a vibrant exhibition zone, a highly-targeted B2B program, and simultaneous events and activities, allowing visitors and participants to experience a 360-degree coverage of all aspects of the Hotel/Restaurant/Cafe (HORECA), food and beverage and hospitality investment markets.
