Director of the Honors Program, Dr Yousri Marzouki speaking at the event.
Doha, Qatar: The Honors Program at the Deanship of General Studies at Qatar University (QU) held the Honors Program Orientation Day for the new students of Fall 2023.
The orientation meeting covered various topics, including the Honors Program academic curriculum, the teaching methodology of the Honors Program courses, the benefits of joining the program, and the process of continuation and graduation from the program.
The Program’s Director, Dr. Yousri Marzouki, and other members of the Honors Program team attended the meeting. A total of 100 male and female students from different disciplines at QU participated in the event.
In his speech, Marzouki, said, “The Honors Program under the Deanship of General Studies is more than just a program; it is a unique academic experience. The program directly achieves excellence in education through its curriculum, which is designed to shape the graduate’s attributes at the University of Qatar. Moreover, joining the Honors Program benefits the students not only academically but also on a personal and social level. It is a life experience based on communication with others, a sense of belonging to a group, and interactive work and collaboration.”
He further added, “The program’s design aligns with the models provided by UNICEF, which focus on personal skills in the 21st century (soft skills). These skills are essential for actual success in both academic and personal paths. Without these skills, the student merely obtains a graduation certificate. However, the Honors Program goes beyond the certificate and provides students with a unique opportunity to develop their soft skills. Therefore, we select students who are motivated to enhance these skills through the experience of the Honors Program in their educational journey.”
Marzouki emphasised that the program serves as an incubator for QU’s top students, preparing them to become proactive graduates who will positively contribute to society in the long term. Our graduates are expected to be future leaders, and this responsibility is of the utmost importance and should be adhered to.
On his part, Head of the Research and Instruction Department at QU Library and an active member of the Honors Program Council, Abdel Hakim Bishawi said, “I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Yousri Marzouki, the director of the Honors Program, and all the program members for inviting me to attend the Honors Program Student Orientation Day as a representative of QU Library for the Honors Program.”
He added, “My interaction with the students was a valuable opportunity to discuss the tasks I offer them, such as delivering specialized lectures, individually or in groups, on electronic databases designed to build advanced research strategies and enhance their scientific research skills. These lectures provide students with an opportunity to participate in research papers, present them, and publish them in reputable scientific journals. I also welcome students to reach out to me at any time for assistance regarding library resources, including sources, programs, articles, educational videos, and more, that will support their studies within the program’s courses and tracks.”
