Sri Lankan community to celebrate ‘Sinhala’ and ‘Bak Maha Ulela’

Doha: The Sri Lankan community in Qatar will celebrate the ‘Sinhala’ and Tamil New Year 2018 (Bak Maha Ulela) at Al Sadd Sports Club on April 13 from 6:30am to 5:30pm.

Sri Lankan Ambassador ASP  Liyanage will be the Chief Guest. The program is being organised by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in collaboration with Sri Lanka Coordinating Committee Qatar.

The organising committee has lined up many traditional and sports events for the participation of community members.

Many Sri Lankan Associations and Old Boy’s Associations (OBA’s) namely Sri Lanka Quantity Surveyors Qatar, St Sylvester’s College Kandy OBA Qatar, Sri Lankan Sports Club Doha, Sri Lankan Friends Club, Ethera Api Qatar, Old Anandians in Qatar, Lanka Lions Doha, St Anthony’s College Kandy OBA Qatar, Sri Lanka Majilis Qatar, National Diploma in Technology Alumini Association Qatar, Federation of Sri Lankan Muslims Association - Qatar and other community members are supporting the celebrations by conducting all the events that have been lined up.

Popular artists Nandana Hettiarachchi and Shiromika Fernando are being flown in by Sri Lankan Airlines for the celebrations. Independent Television Network (ITN) Sri Lanka sponsored by Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) will cover the event and telecast same in Sri Lanka at a later date.

The Silver sponsors of the program are Bank of Ceylon, Vodafone, Readymix Qatar, Trico International and Al Bateel Securicor with Sri Lankan Airlines as the Airline sponsor, Lankadeepa Middle East the media sponsor and Radio RanLanka the broadcasting sponsor.
