Shanghai: Lewis Hamilton roared to pole position in Saturday's qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix as Mercedes look to avenge a stinging defeat by Ferrari in the Formula One season opener.

The Briton, stunned by Vettel in Melbourne two weeks ago, pipped Vettel by two tenths of a second in Shanghai with Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen on row two for Sunday's race.
