Doha: Three-time champion in the Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Series in dressage, Jessica Waldon made a winning start to the 2021-22 season combining with 12-year-old bay stud San Francisco in the Medium (Level 1) category at the Qatar Equestrian’s Federation’s indoor arena yesterday.

The 27-year-old Waldon tallied the best score of 67.589 points with the horse and rider displaying good poise, movement and trott. What was remarkable was the submission of the horse to his rider. Waldon’s good show bettered that of runners-up Ali Mohammed Al Marri, who garnered 65.357 points riding chestnut horse Mozardt Des Hayettes X Orphee Des Forets.

Maryam Ahmad Al Boinin on Silvan (bay gelding) finished a close third at 65.179 points.

A delighted Waldon, commenting on her good start soon after the presentation ceremony said, “Pretty great. I didn’t compete last season, so it’s exciting to come back and compete again.”

She’s happy to be back in the saddle again and thanked her new horse owner for the opportunity.

“It’s a new horse for me, I really liked the way he (San Francisco) went. I am really grateful to the owner of the horse, Alaa Al Khayyat. My partnership with San Francisco has been only three weeks now, so we are trying to figure each other out. I am quite with the pleased with the performance and Inshaallah we will do it even better in the next round,” she said.

The Dressage Prelim (Level 2) competition was won by Jassim Al Jaham Al Kuwari who excelled with Circus, a chestnut gelding.
