DOHA: The second Colour Run in Qatar will be held on January 9 at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC). Over 5,000 people took part in the 5km colour powder race last year.
Participating Doha residents of all ages, communities and physical abilities will receive a newly designed T-shirt, headband and other Colour Run merchandise.
The event is again backed by Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), whose health campaign Sahtak Awalan: Your Health First, will present the event at QNCC. Sahtak Awalan aims to educate people on health issues and encourage them to make healthy life choices.
Nesreen Al Rifai, Chief Communications Officer, WCMC-Q, said: “The event sets a new benchmark for community participation in Qatar, with thousands of people of every level of age and ability coming together from all backgrounds for the Happiest 5k on the Planet. The atmosphere of celebration and healthy living is in line with the objectives of Sahtak Awalan and we are delighted to be bringing the run back to.”
The run is a 5km untimed fun event where participants – or ‘Color Runners’ – can run, jog, walk, or push their children in strollers around the course under a shower of coloured powder. This year unicorn mascot Runicorn will lead the runners.
The course will again wind its way around QNCC and the fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic Finish Festival.
The event offers participants a way to stay healthy while having fun.
In keeping with the event’s community focus, $1 from every entry will be donated to Educate A Child, which is a global programme of Education Above All Foundation that aims to reduce the number of children worldwide denied their right to quality primary education.
