Cairo: Assistant Foreign Minister H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said that Qatar always stands by and supports the Palestinian people on their fair demands.
On the sidelines of an emergency meeting of Arab Peace Initiative Committee in Cairo, Al Rumaihi said Qatar always supports directives of the committee tasked with the peace process in the Middle East.
He said Qatar’s stance is firm towards supporting Palestinian rights in all fields, at international organisations and all levels.
Al Rumaihi said Palestine has become an affiliate to International Criminal Court and other organisations and got endorsement from several European countries. He hoped negotiations would start again to find a peaceful solution to the Palestinian cause.
Al Rumaihi urged the Palestinians to be strong and united in the face of external pressure and Israeli aggressions.
On the financial crisis facing United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and Qatar’s support, he said the state has fulfilled its financial obligations to the agency, adding the Qatari government is mulling actions to enable it to provide services to the Palestinian people, including students.
The meeting was held at Arab League headquarters, also attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and League Secretary-General Nabil Al Arabi.
Headed by Al Rumaihi, the Qatari delegation included Ambassador Saad bin Ali Hilal Al Mohannadi, Director, Arab Affairs Department, Foreign Ministry, and Acting Qatari Charge d’Affaires in Cairo Yassir Awad.
The meeting was held at the request of the State of Palestine to discuss recent Israeli escalation in Jerusalem, especially with regard to Al Aqsa Mosque, continuation of settlement activities, arrests and assassinations by Israel, siege, closure and displacement of Palestinians and ethnic cleansing and war crimes committed against the Palestinian people, including the recent burning of a Palestinian toddler in Nablus.
