New York: The UN Security Council has failed for the second time in a week to adopt a resolution calling on the Israeli entity to respect the international law and the right of Palestinian civilians to demonstrate peacefully.
The State of Kuwait last night presented another draft statement to the Security Council in the wake of the continuous murder of Palestinian protesters in Gaza since the start of demonstrations in the Palestinian territories on the anniversary of the Land Day. Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al Otaibi told a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York that he hoped the draft statement would not be intercepted again by a member of the council, as happened last week.
Palestine News Agency quoted Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour as saying that the State of Palestine had tried during the past week to push the UN Security Council to play its full role towards the Israeli occupation killing and persecution against the Palestinian people, and to stop the massacre committed by the Israeli soldiers in Gaza Strip. Unfortunately, Mansour said, the Israeli entity refused to listen to the international community with the support of Washington, stressing that the continuation of the Security Council in neglecting its responsibilities towards the unarmed civilians in Palestine is tantamount to encouraging the occupation forces to carry forward their slaughter.
Mansour said that the State of Palestine called on the Security Council to provide international protection to its people in Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and sent a letter documenting the numbers of martyrs and injures who fell in peaceful demonstrations in commemoration of the "Land Day" on 30 March.
He also confirmed that there are strong evidence that the Israeli entity intentionally targets civilians in total disregard of its obligations and the norms of international law, including international human rights law and international humanitarian law, indicating that the developments near the border between the occupation and Gaza Strip proved to be not confrontations but a massacre in which unarmed Palestinian civilians are killed.
Eight Palestinians were martyred and hundreds were injured on Friday, raising the number of martyrs who have fallen since a week to 25 killed, in addition to more than two thousand wounded.
