Doha: Ooredoo has launched its annual Health Month of activities for employees as it celebrates International World Health Day today.
Health Month is part of the company’s social responsibility strategy to encourage a healthy lifestyle for all of Qatar. Activities for employees include the distribution of healthy snacks, free check-ups for weight, body mass index, blood pressure, blood sugar, dental, medical, eyes and more.
Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, Director, Community & Public Relations, Ooredoo, said: “Encouraging people to live healthier lifestyles is a key part of Ooredoo’s corporate social responsibility strategy and we extend the approach to our employees with our Health Month.
“Along with healthy food and medical check-ups, we aim to educate our employees on the benefits of better diet and fitness.”
Ooredoo will also encourage customers to educate themselves through its social media pages on World Health Day.
World Health Day is a health awareness day celebrated every year on April 7 under the sponsorship of World Health Organisation.
This year, WHO has dedicated the day to highlighting the epidemic rapidly increasing in many countries – diabetes.
According to International Diabetes Federation, 415 million people have diabetes, including over 35.4 million in the Middle East and North Africa region.
In Qatar, there were an estimated 239,100 cases last year.
Ooredoo sponsors and supports events and programmes to promote healthy living, education and community in Qatar, including building and operating Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Centre to support kidney patients and Ooredoo Cancer Awareness Centre.
