ABU DHABI: Egypt's state grain buyer, the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), said on Thursday it had changed the specifications for moisture content
of imported wheat to be a maximum of 13 percent instead of 13.5 percent.
"The change is valid as of today's tender," Mamdouh Abdel Fattah, Vice Chairman of GASC, told Reuters.
Egypt had said last year it would allow an elevated moisture level in wheat purchases from abroad of 13.5 percent until the end of May.
"Since the shipment date for today's tender is May 10-20 so we had to revert to 13 percent as if a possible delay happens the exemption period would be over," Abdel Fattah said.
On Wednesday, Egypt set a wheat tender with a deadline of 1000 GMT on Thursday.
