Nearly 100 Indian Classical dancers under the tutelage of Kalamandalam Seema Rajith enthralled Doha audience during Noopuradhwani 2018 at DPS MIS auditorium last Friday.
The charismatic performers showcased twenty dances which included Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudy. They were well supported by a live orchestra team lead by eminent artists from Kerala - Payyannur Valsaraj for Vocals, Payyannur Rajan on Mridangam, Palakkad Soorya Narayanan on Flute & Vayala Rajendran on Violin.
The event was attended by Vijay Kumar, Third Secretary, political, Indian Embassy, Milan Arun, President Indian Cultural Center, Cine actress and a playback singer Aparna Balamurali, other dignitaries from various walks of life, representatives of various organizations & thousands of enthusiastic well wishers.
Aparna, a former student of Kalamandalam Seema Rajith, the special guest of the event captivated the audience with a very melodious song. She was also honoured by Seema during the ceremony.
During the event, Rema S Kumar a senior artist and leading exponent of Indian Classical dance, P. Bhaskaran, a senior Keyboard artist were honoured with “Sarga Prathibha Pravasi Puraskar” award. This award was announced commemorating the tenth anniversary of Noopuradhwani and the winners were selected by a jury headed by Jayalekshmi, a playback singer and classical music teacher.
Additionally, a book written by a long-time resident of Doha and a budding writer Sivadas A Menon was also launched during the event.
Noopuradhwani adds a feather to its cap by being the first Indian classical dance event in Doha to have showcased 95 dancers in one stage.
