Doha: Mannai Auto Group and GMC are sponsoring an upcoming series of triathlons that are being hosted by Qatar’s leading triathlon club, TriClub Doha.

GMC will be the title sponsor of the series for the 2013-14 season which will be called the GMC TriSeries Doha and held in partnership with Aspire Zone where the event will be held using Aspire’s indoor pool and running areas.

The series is designed for the first time to welcome members of the public to compete with regular triathletes in the three-discipline sport which involves swimming, cycling and running.

Mohammed Helmy, Group General Manager, Mannai Automotive, said: “Mannai Auto Group and GMC are honoured to be able to support TriClub Doha and promote the efforts of triathletes in Qatar. Through their commitment and hard work, triathletes demonstrate that a truly healthy lifestyle can also be fun and rewarding.”

He added: “We hope that the GMC TriSeries Doha will encourage more people from all over Qatar to participate and take the next step forward in cultivating new and healthier habits, which is why we are glad the series is welcoming everyone in Qatar to join.”

The races will be held in separate categories covering beginners, experienced athletes and professionals.

Nickel Nijman, Chairman of TriClub Doha said: “We designed the TriSeries to appeal to both the beginners, who may be participating in their first triathlon, to more experienced athletes who want to build-up to the full Olympic-distance event in April 2014. The club is also running informal training sessions through the week to allow anyone that may be new to the sport of triathlon to learn tips from other members. I firmly believe that the sport is a great way to get in shape and look after your health”

The first of the events takes place on November 9 which is a Super Sprint event in Aspire Dome.

It will feature a 250m swim, 10km bike ride and 3km run.

Entry to this event is open to men and women with categories designated for kids, juniors, seniors, and veterans.

This will be followed by a more grueling Sprint event with a 500m swim, 20km bike segment and 5km run on November 30. The final two legs will be held in January 2014 which is a three quarter event covering a 750m swim, 30km biking and 7.5km run.

The final round will be held in April over an Olympic-length course covering a 1500m swim, 40km cycling route and a 10km run.
