DOHA: A criminal court has sentenced two Asians to 15 months in jail for stealing a mobile phone handset of a victim in a drunken state.
The duo will be deported after serving the jail term.
The court said the convicts have to spend a year in prison for theft and three months for consuming alcohol.
The convicts consumed liquor and hatched a conspiracy to steal the mobile phone handset of a man they probably knew well.
The victim stayed in a labour camp. The duo got drunk and went to the camp, wearing having veiled their faces, and found him asleep.
They located the mobile phone, but as luck would have it, when they tried to take it away, the man got up and tried to prevent them.
One one of the convicts took out a knife and threatened the man and then they fled.
The victim called police which zeroed in on the duo and handed them over to public prosecution after preliminary investigation.
Charges were filed in the court, which ruled at the end of the trial.
