DOHA: Qatar and Morocco yesterday signed several agreements during the visit of Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelillah Benkirane to the country.
The sixth meeting of the Qatari-Moroccan Joint Supreme Committee was also held yesterday at the Emiri Diwan.
It was co-chaired by Prime Minister and Interior Minister
H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and Benkirane and attended by ministers, senior officials and the Moroccan delegation.
The Premier highlighted positive results of the previous meetings of the committee that further strengthened cooperation.
He said relations between both countries have been distinguished by depth, mutual respect, convergence of visions on many issues under grave circumstances experienced by the region.
He called for maintaining high levels of coordination and consultation to promote Arab solidarity and ensure an active and influential Arab role in addressing the current situation in the region.
Benkirane said Morocco aspires to raise the volume of trade exchange, strengthen Qatari investments and expand their fields, pointing out that the ambitions require intensifying meetings between various sectors of governments and increasing involvement of the private sector in both countries.
Both premiers witnessed the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including on legal and judicial cooperation; maritime transportation; cooperation between Morocco’s National Ports Agency and Qatar Ports Management Company; and an agreement between Silatech Foundation and Morocco’s Attawfiq Micro-Finance Foundation.
MoUs included between Qatar’s National Committee for International Humanitarian Law and Morocco’s National Committee for International Humanitarian Law; on cooperation in the fields of oil, gas, renewable energy, electricity and energy consumption efficiency between the Ministry of Energy and Industry and Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment; and between General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority and Morocco’s Deposits and Saving Fund.
Later, Benkirane left after a two-day visit. He and his delegation were seen off at Hamad International Airport by Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Qatari Ambassador to Morocco Abdullah bin Falah bin Abdullah Al Dosari, and Moroccan Ambassador to Qatar Al Makki Kawan.The Peninsula
