MOSCOW, Egypt's ambassador to Russia said on Tuesday that Russian national carrier Aeroflot and its Egyptian counterpart EgyptAir were in talks about the resumption of Russian flights to Cairo, something he said he hoped would be possible.
Russia halted civilian air traffic to Egypt in October 2015 after Islamist militants detonated a bomb on a Russian Metrojet flight departing the tourist resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing all 224 people on board.
President Vladimir Putin has already authorised the resumption of regular Russian airline flights to Cairo and the Egyptian ambassador, Ihab Nasr, told reporters the Egyptian government had also signed off on the move.
All that remained, he said, was for Aeroflot and EgyptAir to agree the details among themselves.
