Qatar’s Abdulqader wins bronze at Tokyo Paralympic Games

Tokyo: Team Qatar's Abdulrahman Abdulqader won the bronze medal in the shot put - F34 event at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Abdulqader finished in third place after Jordan’s Ahmed Hindi who won the gold medal, and Morocco’s Izz Eddin Al Nouiri who won the silver medal. Abdulqader became the first Qatari player to win a Paralympic medal in Qatar’s history when he clinched the silver in the shot put at Rio 2016 Games.

He also won the gold medal in shot put at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, and the gold medal in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

On the other hand, Qatars shot putter Sara Masoud achieved her best record in the season with a distance of 5m and 42cm.

Masoud became the first Qatari athlete to win a women's Paralympic medal after she won the silver medal in the shot put competition (category 33) in Rio 2016 Games. 

She also won the silver medal in the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, the gold medal in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, and the silver medal in the 2018 Asian Paralympic Games in Jakarta.

Commenting on the achievements,  President of Qatar Paralympic Committee, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud Al Thani, expressed delight with Abdulqader’s bronze medal as well as Masoud’s achievement. He congratulated the Qatari delegation participating in Tokyo Games, and dedicated the accomplishment to the wise leadership of the country.

The Executive Director of Qatar Paralympic Committee Amir Al Mulla also expressed pleasure with the accomplishment.
