SHANGHAI---Chinese shares gained on Monday morning, the first trading day of 2015, on hopes of further monetary easing by the government to boost the economy, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.65 percent, or 21.09 points, to 3,255.77.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, edged up 0.19 percent, or 2.67 points, to 1,417.86.
