Qatar Charity opens library in Khartoum

DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has opened a four storied Library in an area of 1,000 sqm at the Great Mosque in Khartoum to create a reading culture in the community.

The project ‘Al Jaber Library’ was inaugurated by  Mohammed Hatem Sulaiman, Deputy Governor of Khartoum State. The event was attended by Hassan Mohamed Hassan, Bahri Locality Commissioner, Jaber Idris Awishah, Minister of Guidance and Endowments, Abdul Rahman bin Ali Al Kubaisi, Ambassador of Qatar to Sudan.

The library includes reading rooms and administrative offices, in addition to halls for workshops and seminars. Over 5,000 books have been provided to the library. The aim of the library is to provide the sources of knowledge and information to encourage scientific research, self-learning, self-education, skills development and creating a reading environment in society.

At the ceremony, Deputy Governor of Khartoum State said that the project showed the depth of the cultural and intellectual relations between Qatar and Sudan. He looked forward to promoting the Arabic language and reviving the aspects of civilizations through reading. He also stressed that the project is very significant for scientific research and to serve the people throughout Sudan. 

He applauded the role of Qatar in supporting the Sudanese people in the fields of development, production and peace. He also highly appreciated the efforts made by Qatar Charity to implement more than 3,000 projects, in addition to helping the needy, widows and orphans, which contributed to the achievement of peace in Darfur.

Jaber Idris Awishah, Minister of Guidance and Endowments, said that this library will be a great addition, as only few mosques have libraries. He also appreciated the generosity of the Al Jaber family for the implementation of this project. 

Mohammed Al Jaber spoke how an idea of this library became a reality. He thanked the Islamic Endowments Authority and the Sudanese government for their cooperation and providing all necessary facilities to complete the project.
