DOHA: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has officially announced the launch of the second edition of the “Distinguished Young Researcher Award.”
This edition is presented under the theme “Youth and Social Responsibility: Duties and Challenges – Qatari Society as a Model.” This initiative is part of an ongoing strategic partnership between both ministries aimed at supporting youth research and encouraging the academic community to explore the societal issues that most urgently affect Qatari society.
Director of the Department of Research and Islamic Studies at the Ministry of Awqaf, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani praised the fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Youth. He described the award as one of the most important initiatives directed toward outstanding young researchers and students, whether Qatari citizens or residents. The award aims to motivate youth to explore deeply rooted social problems within Qatari society, examine their causes and implications — both current and future — and contribute to identifying practical solutions.
He noted that during the award’s first edition, the core theme focused on “Delayed Marriage and its Impact on Youth in Qatari Society.” In the current edition, he said, the theme has been expanded to address broader responsibilities and challenges facing youth in fulfilling their role within society.
Director of Planning, Quality, and Innovation at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Maha Al-Rumaihi, confirmed that the award is one of the outcomes of Qatar’s National Youth Policy. She emphasised the ministry’s ongoing efforts to support youth, guide their energy, and invest in their talents and interests. These efforts aim to help develop well-rounded, productive national personalities who embrace their national identity and adhere to the Arab and Islamic values of Qatari society.
Applicants must either be Qatari nationals or residents of Qatar. They must be between the ages of 20 and 39. Each applicant must address all announced themes and should ensure that their name appears only on the cover page of the research. A CV and a copy of the applicant’s ID must be submitted alongside the research paper.
The total prize money exceeds QR200,000. The first-place winner will receive QR100,000. The second-place winner will receive QR75,000. The third-place winner will receive QR50,000. The deadline for research submissions is July 5, 2026.
