The Vietnamese community may be small in number but its members have big hearts willing to help each other in times of need.
One of them is Nguyen Thanh Tung (Pictured), a civil engineer by trade who chose to spend time in assisting his compatriots as one of the deputy heads of Vietnamese Community Liaison Board.
Since he arrived in Qatar six years ago, Tung, who works as project manager in an international construction company, has been involved in helping out in the community through various activities and means to lend a hand along with other members of the organization.
“We did charities for the Vietnamese victims of the typhoon in Vietnam as well as help some Vietnamese people who are seriously sick in Qatar. We also help all the Vietnamese people who have any problems in Qatar who need our help and coordinate with Embassy,” Tung told The Peninsula.
He said the need to provide assistance towards his compatriots even in simple ways has always inspired him to continue working with the group, hoping he would be in Qatar for more years to go on with his advocacy.
“I hope I can stay here for more years. I like Qatar, firstly because I have been given a good job here. Secondly, Qatar is a nice country and it’s very safe. My family can stay here safe and they are happy here,” he said, adding prior to coming here, he had a choice whether to work in several countries like Hong Kong, Russia and Qatar but he preferred to work here.
Apart from helping others, they also organize other activities such as sports activities like golf, chess and ping pong, said Tung, adding like Qatar, Vietnamese people also love football.
“My family and I love football. Back in Vietnam, we have a national football team and the Vietnamese community love football,” he said, adding the Vietnamese community supports Qatar World Cup 2022’s success.
In support of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, Tung has been enthusiastic sharing what his friends back in his home country should know about World Cup 2022 via social media.
“Having known about the Qatari culture and the nice stadiums here, my friends are very much interested about it, some of them are even planning to fly to Qatar to watch World Cup 2022. It is my dream to watch World Cup 2022 live here,” he ended.
