Doha: Dominican plastic artist Jerson Jimenez praised the wonderful organisation of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and said in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that Qatar has succeeded in organising an amazing and impressive World Cup, and the country achieved what it promised.

“I lived in Europe and came from there to prepare for my exhibition here in Doha, and I witnessed and touched some objections to Qatar’s organisation of the World Cup, especially in Germany, where some people raised issues unrelated to sports, which were not understood by me and lacked logic. While everyone had to support Qatar, because it did what it did for the whole world, and I saw how happy everyone was with this wonderful organization, and I warmly congratulate all those who worked to achieve this great success,” Jimenez said.

This came on the sidelines of his exhibition “Faces of the World,” which was organised by the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, in cooperation with the Dominican Embassy in Qatar. It included 25 artistic portraits of the most prominent soccer stars in the world.

On the relationship between art and sports, Jimenez said that the connection between them lies in the artist and athlete always striving to set an example, and to make efforts to reach the best in art and sports, and are always inseparable in his experience. When he was young in the Dominican Republic, he used to practise Olympic gymnastics, and also practiced drawing since he was 12 years old, and now they are inseparable in his exhibition in Doha, “Faces of the World”, and on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which he dedicated to draw portraits of soccer stars.

Regarding his style of drawing, Jimenez said he chose to express feelings, not appearance, in drawing portraits of world football stars, so he did not follow the traditional method of drawing faces, because he sees that feeling is what should be expressed in drawing.
