DOHA: A fire resistant coat developed by students of Al Risala I Secondary Independent School has been launched during the Civil Defence Exhibition & Conference.
The suit was innovated by students in collaboration with ‘Echo Qatar’, ‘Injaz’ and General Administration of Civil Defence within the framework of strengthening and raising awareness at the level of school students. The project was developed by a team of students, led by Tasneem Ahmed, Project Director who was behind the idea of the suit, in cooperation with Taif Jamal and Dana Al Nuaimi, under the auspices and support of the school.
The project was supervised by Lamia Aql, Business Administration Teacher.
Ahmed said the idea of the project was developed when they were assigned by the school to establish a small company that produces a new product that has not been produced yet. After surveying schools and universities in Qatar, it was learnt that there is an urgent need for a fire resistant suit to protect them in times of risk and during eviction.
Student Jawahir Al Shaabi designed the suite and submitted a proposal for its manufacture at ECO Qatar. The company responded to the proposal and sent the design to a manufacturing plant in Germany, where the company connected manufactures with school students.
It was finally manufactured, and submitted to Civil Defence which approved implementation of the idea.
Al Risala school won best student product award by Injaz for the product on Qatar’s Independent schools level.
Students look forward to accomplishing other projects to help save lives and maintain security during evacuation in dangerous stages, such as making muzzle to protect against toxic gas emissions during fires and implementation of an oxygen tube to help people breathe in addition to the buzzer made for use in times of risk to locate people in need of rescue.
Jamal said the experiment with the support of ‘Injaz’ gave her a positive impetus to explore more and opened the door for creativity and she aspired to develop the project further.
