Total took the opportunity of the recent International Petroleum Technology Congress (IPTC), to showcase its long term commitment to Qatar as a reliable energy partner. This is the 7th year in which Total participates in the IPTC, having been present since its creation in 2005.
The conference and exhibition was attended by a delegation of over 30 of Total’s senior company representatives, led by Yves Louis Darricarrèrre, President Upstream, Michel Hourcard, President Development - Exploration & Production Division, and Stéphane Michel, President Middle East - Exploration and Production Division.
In addition, over 60 delegates from Total in Qatar and worldwide participated in the plenary and panel sessions, booth presentations and young members’ activities. Total’s delegates submitted 28 papers and posters in the IPTC.
The Total booth displayed a mock-up of Total’s supercomputer ‘PANGEA’ which is based in France. It is the most powerful computer ever owned by an Oil & gas major, PANGEA, is capable of a staggering 2.3 million billion operations per second, or 2.3 petaflops. In addition, a seismic imaging tool Sismage 3D’, used to map the behaviour and characteristics of oil and gas reservoirs deep below ground was exhibited at the booth. Finally, for a light entertainment, visitors at the booth were able to get behind the wheel of a replica Total-sponsored Lotus-Renault Formula One car, to try their hand at racing around a virtual F1 race track.
Following the IPTC Congress, Guillaume Chalmin, Managing Director of Total E&P Qatar commented: “This event was greatly beneficial in constructive discussion about technical challenges in the Oil and Gas industry, as well as technological innovation, research, safety, environment, etc. We are very proud to have contributed by featuring some of our cutting-edge technologies at the exhibition.
