Doha: The first joint campaign to remove abandoned vehicles in 2022 was launched across Al Rayyan Municipality yesterday.

The campaign is being implemented by Committee for Removal of Abandoned Vehicles and the Departments of Mechanical Equipment and General Cleanliness, in cooperation with Al Rayyan Municipality and Internal Security Force ‘Lekhwiya’.

This is within the framework of the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Municipality to remove abandoned vehicles in the country in order to preserve the aesthetic view of the country, and following Law No. 18 of 2017 on public hygiene, to ensure public health and environmental protection.

The campaign was attended by Jaber Hassan Al Jaber, Director of Al Rayyan Municipality and Deputy Head of the Abandoned Vehicles Removal Committee; Lieutenant Muhammad Jassim Al Tamimi from Lekhwiya and Muhammad Haidan Al Marri, Head of Public Control Department in Al Rayyan Municipality.

Jaber Hassan Al Jaber said that it is the first campaign to remove abandoned vehicles and equipment in the country for the year 2022, as part of a specific action plan to remove the abandoned vehicles in the country. He said that the campaign will continue from the beginning of this month of January and for a period of two weeks until the completion of the removal of all abandoned vehicles in Al Rayyan Municipality.

Al Jaber pointed out that it is expected to remove approximately 500 cars from various areas of Al Rayyan Municipality, at a rate of 25 to 30 cars per day. He added that the removal of abandoned vehicles in the Ain Khaled and Aziziyah areas has begun, and work is underway to cover all areas of the municipality. 

Al Jaber said that the phenomenon of abandoned cars will be confronted by intensifying more campaigns and raising awareness and alerting vehicle owners, as these cars are found in most residential areas, industrial workshops and other areas. He urged motorists to cooperate with the efforts of removing abandoned cars, to eliminate the phenomenon of the spread of abandoned cars across the country.

Al Jaber added that the action plans during the next phase will include another municipality to implement a campaign within its administrative borders, coinciding with the campaign in Al Rayyan, and upon completion of the specified areas, it will go to another municipality, according to the timetable set by the Committee Removal of Abandoned Vehicles.

Lieutenant Muhammad Jassim Al Tamimi from Lekhwiya said that this participation is the first of its kind within the new action plan for 2022 which aims to remove abandoned cars in Al Rayyan Municipality, with the participation of the municipality and a number of competent authorities.
