Al Rayan Municipality closed 27 food outlets in 2021

Doha: Al Rayan Municipality recorded 448 violations of some provisions of food regulation law at food outlets in 2021.

The Ministry of Municipality in a statement said that the municipality implemented decisions of closing 27 food outlets. The inspector of the Health Monitoring Section of General Monitoring Department of the municipality conducted 37,015 inspection visits to food outlets across the municipality during the period of study.

The municipal inspectors made reconciliations in 380 cases of violations after erring firms rectified the situation and paid the fines. The municipality received 470 complaints which were responded within 24 hours from the date of recording the violations.

As many as 556 food samples were taken to central laboratory for testing the quality of the products. A number of campaigns were conducted to educate food handlers about the importance of health and safety rules to ensure the safety of consumers.

The municipal inspectors destroyed 750,299kg fruits and vegetable after they were found unfit for human consumption. A total of 26 food samples were taken using early warning system ‘Zahib’.  A team of veterinary doctors from inspection section of Al Rayan Municipality inspected 53,146kg of slaughtered animals at Al Sailiya Central Market.

As a result, 362 slaughtered animals and 3,137kg meat were destroyed after they were found unfit for human consumption. The inspection section also participated in the joint campaigns conducted by the municipality monitoring section for food safety during the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021.

Al Rayan Municipality also deployed mobile laboratory to inspect the samples of food items at Al Sailiya Central Market and other industrial areas. The municipality also launched ‘Lnartaqi Man’ campaign which aimed at involving food outlets and commercial companies in a number of community activities to create health awareness among consumers.
