Doha: The President of Qatar University (QU) Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham was elected as member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Universities (IAU) for the Asia-Pacific region, at the conclusion of the IAU's 16th General Conference.
At its current session held in Dublin, Ireland, the conference discussed the importance and value of higher education in the society of the future.
Dr. Al Derham said that the IAU has been an important platform for discussing policies and setting direction for higher education institutions around the world since it was established in 1947 under the umbrella of the UNESCO.
Qatar University is scheduled to host the IAU's 17th Conference, based on its leading role as a university offering intensive academic and research programmes.
