Doha: The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) is hosting a FIA Women Motor Sport Commission Seminar which commences today at the Sealine.
The event will begin with the registration of all the drivers while the briefing will start tomorrow and will conclude on November 6 with the training programme also scheduled to take on the same day.
The seminar is a training project, initiated by FIA Women Motor Sport Commission.
Ahead of the event, the QMMF President Naseer bin Saleh Al Attiyah heaped praise on President FIA Women Motor Sport Commission for her contribution towards women’s motor sport and holding such events.
“I would like to thank and praise the team’s efforts of FIA Women Motor Sport Commission headed by Michele Mouton,” said the QMMF President.
“Mouton’s efforts in promoting motor sport is not something new to us. She has been working in this field since long time. She is really a model to be followed as she has drawn the current lay out on which we currently set out our plans and strategy.”
Al Attiyah said Qatar backs women’s motor sport.
“No doubt that motor sport is one of the sports that is practiced by both men and women and there are no specific laws or instructions to be applied only on women as they are the half of the society.
“QMMF will promote such concept throughout the woman seminar with the participation of 18 women all over the world,” he said.
“We believe in the woman role in motor sport and the other life fields. We are sure that the targeted result of this seminar will be yielded. Our target is to increase the role of woman in motor sport throughout adopting new concepts capable of finding a fertilised and solid ground based on woman wide participation, according to an advanced strategy (theoretically & practically).
“Such action would inevitably support the current female riders and motivate more new women to try this sport,” he added.
Al Attiyah said: “Eight drivers and their co-drivers will be selected to participate in the training programme, under the supervision of the driver Mrs Gotta K who was the first lady to score an achievement in Dakar rally. Fabriza B will be also available in the training team,” he said.
“On the other side, all facilities of QMMF will be offered in order to reach the targeted results,” he added.
Meanwhile, the QMMF doors will be opened for more constructive cooperation with all federations and concerned international authorities and organisations concerned with motor sport, our goal is to highlight the Middle East and North Africa region - MENA as a vital region full of all necessary and substantial factors that are capable of securing and sustaining the motor sport,” he added.
