Doha: President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani congratulated H H the Amir, H H the Father Amir and the Qatari people on historic achievement of Mutaz Barshim, who won high jump gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games yesterday.
It was Qatar’s second gold medal in Tokyo after weightlifter Fares Ibrahim’s victory on Saturday. The country did not win a gold at Games before the Tokyo Games.
“Qatar’s ninth participation in the Olympics has been outstanding and impressive by all standards of success. The athletes left no stone unturned to honour our sport movement perfectly at a bigger stage,” the QOC President said.
Sheikh Joaan applauded the significant support of the H H the Amir to the Qatar’s sport movement, which remains a motivating factor behind this unique success of Qatari athletes. The QOC President also congratulated Barshim and appreciated his hardwork.
