Doha, Qatar: Pre-Registration Service has sped up entry and exit procedures of travellers at Abu Samra Border Crossing, cutting the waiting time significantly, said a top official.

“I would like to urge travellers to use the service to finish the procedures fast,” said Director of Land Customs Department at General Authority of Customs (GAC) Ahmed Yousuf Al Sahel.

Speaking to Qatar Radio recently, he said that the General Authority of Customs in coordination with the Permanent Committee for Managing Abu Samra Border Crossing had launched Pre-Registration Service in Metrash2 for Abu Samra Border Crossing.

Director of Land Customs Department said there is an electronic insurance scheme service for vehicles coming from other countries to Qatar. “This online service also accelerated the procedures cutting the waiting time of travellers,” said Al Sahel.

To a question about GAS action plans in dealing with travellers during peak times like Eid Al Adha, he said the GAC makes special arrangements at all customs check posts –land, sea and air – on the occasions.

“Following the directive of the Chairman of General Authority of Customs, Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal, a supporting team was set up to facilitate the process during the crowding season like Eids and holidays,” said Al Sahel.

Pre-Registration Service for Abu Samra Border Crossing in Metrash2 is an optional service that allows citizens and residents to complete departure and arrival procedures at the Abu Samra border through a dedicated fast lane, while other lanes will serve as usual.

To take advantage of this service, users can log in to the Metrash2 app, select ‘Travel Services’ and then ‘Pre-Registration for Abu Samra Border Crossing’, and enter the required data, including vehicle, driver and passengers. After confirmation of the request, the ministry will send an SMS to the beneficiary.

General Authority of Customs deployed trained working teams to provide support related to the Authority’s readiness and preparations in supporting the country’s air, land and seaports and providing comprehensive support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The authority holds training workshop within the framework of developing the capabilities of the Authority’s cadres and enhancing their participation in the capacity-building programme and share and exchange of skills, knowledge and experience among all employees from all departments.

The workshops are also part of the Authority’s strategic directions, and are consistent with the human development pillar of Qatar Vision 2030.
