DOHA: The stage show by Bollywood actress Sunny Leone to be held on March 11 is cancelled by the organisers after a meeting with the authorities.
In an email statement the organisers, Arunvalley Entertainement, said that they were called in for a meeting by the authorities.
“As per the meeting, in respect to Qatar culture, we cancelled the entire event. We are working on our next project for which the date and artist will be announced soon,” a company official said.
Sunny Leone was the main attraction of the Mega Bollywood Night supposed to be held on March 11, 2016 at the Asian Town Amphitheatre.
Arunvalley Entertainement said that they had sold more than 7,000 tickets for the show before they were called in and will be refunding the money to all the buyers.
“Everyone who purchased tickets will get full refund from the ticketing website or from the same outlets where you purchased the physical tickets,” the organisers said.
In a Facebook post announcing the cancellation Arunvalley Entertainement said that they will be back with a bigger event.
“We promise you to come back with an extravaganza which will take you to the next level of entertainment. ... stay tuned.”
When the show was announced there were equal amount of brickbats and bouquets on the social media as some derided a stage show by an actress who has done risqué roles in movies.
Comedian Sunil Pal, Dance Indian Dance champion Nirmal and pop singer Himal were also part of the star cast.
The same show was planned earlier for January 1, but got rescheduled for March 11.
Sunny Leone made a name in Indian film industry after she participated in the Indian reality television series Big Boss in 2011.
In 2012 she made her Bollywood debut in Pooja Bhatt's thriller Jism 2 and shifted her focus to mainstream acting which was followed up with movies like Jackpot, Ragini MMS 2 and Ek Paheli Leela.
She has a very active social media following with more than a million following on twitter.
