DOHA: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday honoured winners of the ninth Education Excellence Day award for the 2014-2015 academic year at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
Interacting with the students during the ceremony, the Emir said that development projects, spending on infrastructure, education and health well remain at good levels despite the fall in oil prices.
The Emir said that he was keen to listen to their views on the country and development. He added that Qatar was continuously looking for national talent that pushes the country forward in all fields.
Education is an important phase, but business and work after graduation is an even more important step, said the Emir. He urged the young to stand resilient in the face of bureaucracy to facilitate development for their generation and the coming ones.
The Emir discussed with the winners the recent changes to the Cabinet and merger of ministries. He said that these changes will improve efficiency and help the country achieve its 2030 national vision.
For their part, the winners expressed their thanks to the Emir for attending the event, which they said reflected his commitment to education.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi and several other ministers and senior officials attended the award ceremony held by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education .
The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the winners for their recognition and wished them further success in their academic and scientific career.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Al Hammadi extended sincere thanks and appreciation to the Emir for honouring the ceremony, looking forwards to new horizons, greater achievements and more prestigious successes in the process of education in Qatar.
He underlined that celebrating the ninth session of the Education Excellence Day reflects Qatar’s commitment to develop the capacities and creativity of its people and encourage individuals and educational institutions to improve their performance and spread the spirit of fair competition in the field of scientific excellence.
“Education Excellence Day is a commitment to guide individual and institutional energies towards excellence, and to promote positive attitudes among citizens towards participation in the knowledge industry,” said the Minister.
He added that every country needs its young talent to contribute to development as the world seeks a knowledge-based society. Qatar continues working on developing its educational system in order to build an entire generation of young people well-equipped to innovate and keep up with the modern world. This would help reach sustainable development in light of the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Minister of Public Health H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari said that the presence of the Emir in the ceremony will give a boost to the education sector and to students to innovate and develop themselves.
Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H E Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem Al Nabit said that encouraging science and innovation reflects the vision of Qatar’s wise leadership and its commitment to education as the cornerstone of sustainable development.
Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari also extended his congratulations to the winners and said that the event reflected the importance Qatar is giving to education.
