Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has said that water production in Qatar reached 670 million cubic meters in 2021.
Kahramaa’s total water storage recorded 2,300 million gallons, an increase of 100 million gallons last year compared to 2020. This came in a report issued by Kahramaa demonstrating its achievements in 2021.
Kahramaa continued its efforts to support the water security of Qatar, and implemented several projects in 2021 with the aim of meeting the increasing demand for water in the country.
The highest daily water consumption last year reached 419 million gallons, while the lowest was at 346 million gallons, said the report. The Water Network Affairs has successfully responded 55,727 complaints related to water, and has carried out 47 preventive and corrective maintenance operations for water facilities, including water pumping stations, tank stations and water tanks.
A total of 110 inspections were conducted covering an estimated 632km network pipelines out of a total of 740 km to be examined during the duration of the project, which aims to detect leakage sites in water pipes of large diameters, which is of great importance in reducing the waste caused by such leakages.
As many as 3,050 new properties were connected to the water distribution network. Kahramaa also launched new water networks with lengths of up to 109.5km, ranging in from 100mm to 600 mm, which aim to improve the performance of the water network and provide the necessary infrastructure to deliver services to new customers.
Transmission lines with diameters between 900 and 1600mm were inaugurated to serve water security mega reservoir project and other projects with a total length of 14.85 km.
Kahramaa succeeded in launching an 8.3 million gallon water tank and lifting station No. 2 in Lusail area in May 2021, with the aim of improving pumping and increasing water storage capacity in the area.
A total of 330 rainwater harvesting wells have been rehabilitated, distributed throughout the regions of the State of Qatar, in order to feed underground aquifers and maintain their water levels.
Kahramaa inaugurated a water quality monitoring laboratory in Al Thumama. It is equipped with the latest international technologies to monitor water quality around the clock and ensure the highest standards of security and safety. This laboratory is considered a quantum leap in the quality of water services in Qatar.
