Qatar Charity (QC) has drilled 1,800 water-wells, in different parts of Bangladesh. More than 200,000 people benefitted from the project.
The humanitarian organizations and concerned authorities faced difficulties because of water salinisation, especially in Bagerhat governorate near to the Bay of Bengal. They overcame it with the intervention of QC as it helped conducting researches in detecting drinking water.
QC adopted an alternative plan in areas where access to drinking water is limited by establishing desalination plants, along with implementing 13 irrigation projects in regions suffering from drought.
For his part, Mohammad Amin Hafez, the director of QC's Office in Bangladesh said that QC has implemented a number of water projects in Bangladesh, which suffers from water scarcity due to the increased salinity in groundwater, leading to higher rates of waterborne diseases.
QC will spare no effort to implement projects that enable residents to get their most basic essentials of life. Such projects including water-supply projects, he added.
QC implemented a number of water and sanitation projects in Bangladesh. It drilled 10000 artesian wells up to 300 meters deep in coastal areas that suffer from the scarcity of drinking water because of water salinization and lack of funds to dig deep. In its continuous efforts to implement water projects in countries that suffer from water scarcity, QC has implemented a desalination plant “Baegasa” at a cost of QR 200,000, benefiting 20,000 persons. It produces 80,000 liters of drinking water.
