Doha: Qatar University (QU) basketball team emerged winners in Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Basketball Championship last Saturday.
The team beat Texas A&M University in Qatar (TAMUQ) 31-28 in the final match, attended by QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham, Associate Vice-President for Student Life & Services Abdulla Al Yafei, officials from the Student Activities Department, and students.
Dr Al Derham said: “Our students were empowered by persistence and ambition and demonstrated that they are competent to face challenges.
“QU continues to support its students’ participation in non-academic activities to enrich their campus experience,” Dr Al Derham added.
Al Yafei congratulated the students and said Dr Al Derham’s presence gave the team added impetus to give their all and win the championship.
Team Coach Ahmed Oueslati said: “I am proud of the team’s success – the players surprised us all with different and clever techniques from beginning to end of the match. We plan to continue participating in future regional and international competitions.”
Players Ahmed Hamed and Mohammed Al Batal highlighted the team’s belief in their ability, persistence, hard work, consistent training and strong team spirit.
