Doha: Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, affirmed that Qatar is deeply engaged in efforts to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear file, especially after the ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the end of the escalation in the region.
He noted that there are currently no talks about a ceasefire in Gaza. Addressing a weekly media briefing organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al Ansari stated “The Qatari interest, as well as that of various countries worldwide, is now directed towards reaching a broader and more comprehensive nuclear agreement between Iran and the United States of America.”
He pointed out that Qatari communications are ongoing daily with various parties in this regard.
He added that “there are no talks about a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but the State of Qatar, along with its partners in mediation, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, continues to communicate with various parties to reach a formula that enables us to return to negotiations.”
Al-Ansari condemned the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza amidst the current Israeli escalation, stating in this context: “It has become very difficult for us, as an international community, to accept that this crisis continues for nearly two years, and that these human losses become mere numbers that are no longer impactful in the media.”
He explained that “more than 500 martyrs have fallen so far as a result of standing in lines waiting for aid,” noting that there are very disturbing reports published in the Israeli press about orders given to Israeli soldiers to shoot at unarmed civilians who were regularly waiting for humanitarian aid.
In a related context, Al-Ansari explained that Qatar sees positive American positions pushing towards the return of negotiations on Gaza, stating in this regard: “The American administration has brought us the longest ceasefire during this war, just as we saw how the American administration led to a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and obligated both parties to abide by it.”
He continued: “Today, we see renewed positive language coming from the United States of America to reach an agreement.
“Therefore, we are very optimistic about this language, and we believe that there are clear American intentions towards reaching a final solution to this crisis, although there are undeniable complexities on the ground.”
Al-Ansari pointed out that H E the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs will be in the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday (today) to receive the Tipperary International Peace Award, which is considered one of the most prominent awards given globally in this field, presented annually in recognition of humanitarian efforts and activities aimed at building peace worldwide.
He explained that this award, presented by the Tipperary Peace Convention, aims to honor individuals or organizations who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of peace, justice, and human rights around the world, stating that this recognition reflects the significant role played by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in various mediations, and also confirms the important position enjoyed by the State of Qatar in global peacemaking.
