Doha: Minister of Environment and Climate Change, H E Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani, visited the Ninth Disaster Management Camp (DMC-9), organised by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) under the patronage of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH).

He and his accompanying delegation were received by Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi, CEO of QRCS, and Mohamed Rashid Al Marri, Deputy Head of DMC-9.

The Minister was introduced to the camp’s various training areas and took a tour of some facilities, especially the mobile field hospital and emergency operations room. He praised the idea of the camp and its field training that helps the trainees to gain real experience.

He thanked the QRCS and the contributing partners. Yesterday morning, there was a simulation scenario of a massive earthquake, which left behind heavy casualties.

The field teams responded immediately by heading to the disaster zone, where they assessed the situation and provided first aid to critically injured people. Upon information from the Shelter Team that the location is not safe, the patients were transferred in ambulance vehicles to the field hospital, while the other victims were admitted to the shelter camp.

The personnel accommodated men and women in two separate sections, distributed food and drinking water, provided psychological support services and restored family links (RFL), and held a press conference to inform the public about the situation.

The Humanitarian Tent concluded with a lecture entitled, “The Humanitarian Media: Reality and Challenges”, delivered by Tamer Almisshal, journalist at Al Jazeera Media Network. He presented his experience as a journalist and the professional challenges he faced during years of coverage in various circumstances and regions.

In the evening, the “Voluntary Service” group attended a lecture by the trainer Mahmoud Al Sisi from QRCS. There was a simulation scenario of a poisoning incident at a refugee camp, which provoked angry demonstrations to denounce the ill-treatment of displaced people.

Then, clashes occurred among some protesters. Immediately, the police intervened to maintain order, and the QRCS personnel responded by providing first aid to injured people. A press conference was held to answer the questions of reporters.
