DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has launched a new campaign to collect humanitarian aid to support newly displaced Syrian people inside the country along Turkey’s border.
The target is 100 truckloads of flour. Each truck will contain 25 tonnes of flour bags, at a cost of QR27,500. The aid is expected to benefit 125,000 people.
The flour will be delivered to bakeries in the areas of newly displaced Syrians in Rif Halab along the Turkey-Syria boarder, Rif Hama (north), Sahl Al Ghab, Al Atshan village, Rif Halab (west), Rif Lazqiyah, Rif Hamas (east) and Al Hawla, Hems.
RAF will launch a drive in collaboration with Qatar-based Holy Quran Radio to collect the aid. The programme will be broadcast today at 8pm and on Thursday at 3.30pm.
RAF urged the public to extend a helping hand to rescue the displaced Syrian people forced to leave their homes due to the shelling by Russian fighters. Donors can finance a full truckload or part of it. A tonne of flour costs QR1,100, the price for a full truck is QR27,000 and half truck QR13,750.
A tonne of flour will be enough to produce 1,150 packets of bread, each with eight breads. So far, RAF has dispatched three caravans of trucks loaded with flour at a cost of QR2.1m to Syria, donated by people in Qatar. Donations can be made through the round-the-clock RAF hotline 555341818 or at the collection centre set up all over the country.
