Doha: Global education think tank WISE is enhancing its existing relationship with Visa to make financial literacy as well as sports and sustainability key components of co-curated programmes and activities throughout the country.
Through this joint effort, the two entities aim to produce tailored activities for Qatar’s learning ecosystem, providing a wider array of learning opportunities that advance digital financial inclusion and equity, driving sustainable commerce and the transition to a low-carbon environment.
WISE and Visa also held financial education workshops for young people from 23 Arab countries as part of the Generation Amazing Festival.
The workshops empowered young community leaders and athletes to consider the role that financial planning can play in securing their futures, as well as tied together themes of sports, discipline, and financial education. Stavros N. Yiannouka, CEO of WISE, a Qatar Foundation initiative, said, “The co-creation of this joint program is the materialization of our common ambition: providing a balanced and complete education to the population of Qatar.
"We are very pleased to welcome Visa as a long-term partner and are very confident that the next few months will give us the perfect platform to spread this initiative to our active communities and ecosystem.” Dr. Saeeda Jaffar, Visa’s Group Country Manager for the GCC region, said, “We believe that communities thrive when everyone, everywhere is included in the formal financial system.
"That’s why we are focusing on driving educational initiatives with our global financial literacy programs to help improve the livelihoods of those traditionally underserved. We are excited about our partnership with WISE and look forward to extending the benefits of financial education to drive digital access for more individuals, their businesses and our economies.”
The partnership kicked off with Visa’s participation in the WISE Edtech Accelerator bootcamp, providing WISE’s cohort members with experiential workshops, as well as networking opportunities with selected investors and education stakeholders.
The three-day bootcamp also featured a full program of panels, workshops, and one-on-one discussions.
In 2022, Visa will power WISE’s Doha Learning Days, a large community event bringing together young people, families, and members of the community to engage in hands-on learning outside of formal education environments.
In previous years, the festival has brought together partners and thousands of school aged learners, and engaged them in activities centred around wellbeing, creativity, technology, and arts.
